What follows is the definition for the term Ground Rent as it relates to mortgages in the UK.

Ground Rent

The amount of money that is paid for the use of land when title to a property is held as a leasehold estate rather than as a fee simple estate.

The rent charged on a leasehold property paid to the freeholder usually annually.
