What follows is the definition for the term Survey as it relates to mortgages in the UK. Survey
One important factor when buying your home is a Survey. The most basic form of survey if a valuation.
The next level up is a home buyers survey. This is a more in depth survey and will include a more detailed report on the condition of the house or flat.
The most complete survey though, is a structural survey. This provides information on type of construction of the property, any concerns about subsidence and any unusual building materials. Often this type of survey is used on very old properties or where there is a concern about subsidence problems. Other things to consider are the position of rivers, old mines and local amenities. These may not be covered in the survey but useful to bear in mind.
